The Project Engineer – Marine opportunity is an exciting permanent position to contribute to the advancement of future transportation technology. The successful candidate for this Project Engineer – Marine position will be responsible for Mechanical Design and Project Engineering of future transportation development projects. You will ideally have experience in the following sectors, Marine, Naval Engineering, Shipbuilding or Vessel Design engineering, Decarbonisation or Hydrogen experience would be advantageous.

Project Engineer – Marine, responsibilities:

Provide support to projects as required, including BOM control and management of subcontract design and analysis activity

Assist in the design and analysis of systems, including component selection, system integration, and performance optimisation.

Provide solutions for in-field failures and issues on company products and projects.

Identify and troubleshoot technical challenges and product issues/failures observed during operation, and propose innovative solutions.

Under the supervision of the Principal Engineer, support with introduction of the solution into the products/projects.

Work closely and consult with cross-functional teams, including design, electrical, procurement, the workshop, and external partners, to achieve project objectives.

Participate in testing protocols, data collection, and validation efforts to ensure the reliability and safety of the dual fuel systems.

Contribute to quality assurance processes and ensure that projects meet regulatory and industry standards.

Provide reports on work carried out, and maintain data pertaining to design, development and calibration work in line with business requirements

Ensure adherence to all Health & Safety and Quality & Environmental policies that affect the relevant work areas.

Project Engineer – Marine, requirements:

Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering

Strong interest & passion in decarbonisation and robust technologies that are used for harsh environments (high TRL technologies)

Unknown recruitment is seeking a Powertrain Calibration Engineer for our R&D client based in Essex to join a highly skilled engineering team to work on the exciting future transportation renewable fuel powertrain technologies.

 Powertrain Calibration Engineer Responsibilities:

• Perform base engine calibration across multiple powertrains in a dyno environment.
• Complete calibration in vehicle and on non-road machinery.
• Support aftersales teams on calibration updates and level upgrades.
• Provide engineering reports with program status activity reports covering both technical deliverables and business performance.
• Recording and analyse test data using current analytical and product development IT tools relevant to engine software and control systems.
• Provide field calibration and engineering support both on and off site.
• Research alternatives and implement solutions to measure and meet customer-driven calibration and development objectives.
• Participate in root cause failure analysis during the development process. Find and recommend practical solutions for specific failure modes as related to calibration parameters, or calibration related engine and emissions systems performance.

Powertrain Legislation and Certification Specialist (Marine) Responsibilities:

Unknown Resourcing are seeking a Powertrain Legislation, Certification, homologation Engineer / Specialist for our leading R&D client. The successful candidate will support the Marine team through the product certification process to interpret and comply with various global hydrogen and marine standards, including but not limited to, engine and hydrogen fuel storage and delivery system approvals.

Maintain up to date knowledge of industry standards and applicable rules, monitor legislative changes and assess their potential impact on dual-fuel engine and hydrogen system approvals.

Act as an interface for external parties (e.g. Classification Societies) to exchange testing and witnessing requirements and cascade requirements to the engineering and calibration teams.

Oversee multiple complex schedules, setting priorities for internal teams.

Advise Company management of the legislation/compliance project statuses on a regular basis.

Developing new project legislation approval, e.g. spearheading underdeck storage concepts, new engines, in-service inspection requirements, etc

Coordinate the efforts of the engineering and production departments to ensure programs are conducted in accordance with the safety standard requirements.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate compliance requirements into the development process.

Coordinate prototype certification testing to qualify new designs/systems.

Ensure compliance to safety analysis including DFMEA, HAZID, HAZOP, HAT and SAT

Supply ongoing training to the engineering teams, acting as a resource and mentor for technical guidance.

Independently anticipate potential schedule delays and initiate plans for alternative actions as needed; able to rearrange competing priorities to ensure all deadlines are met.

Work professionally and cooperatively in a cross-functional team environment with a focus upon maximising system safety, performance and customer satisfaction

Powertrain Legislation and Certification Specialist (Marine) Requirements:

Classification society/Plan Approval

Hydrogen and/or fuel cells

The Principle Engineer – Marine is an exhilarating permanent position to contribute to the advancement of future transportation technology. The successful Principle Engineers will be responsible for a small team of Design, Project Engineering team, including both Mechanical and Electrical R&D engineering to work on Future transportation development projects. You will ideally have experience in the following sectors, Marine, Naval Engineering, Shipbuilding or Vessel Design engineering, Decarbonisation or Hydrogen experience would be advantageous.

 Principle Engineer – Marine, Future Technology responsibilities:

Owns the technical development of one or more development projects. Responsibility includes all technical aspects of the product, including but not limited to mechanical design, electrical design, system performance (diesel displacement), compliance to all legal requirement.

Strive to obtain an expert level understanding of all technical knowledge with reference to design and legislation of your product.

Responsible for the audit and quality of the designer and support engineer’s work.

Responsible for team communication, motivation and development to ensure technical knowledge and skills are developed and kept up to date with marine industry and certification standards.

Ensure the project is delivered from concept through to completion following all steps of the gateway process.

Carry out technical investigations of field problems, and provide technical solutions. Conduct project reviews to ensure continuous learning and improvement are built into next generation processes and products.

Co-ordinate with team members and utilize own engineering skills and tools to meet product requirements, program delivery and business objectives.

Monitors project budget and product cost.

Co-ordinate activities with the required stakeholders.

Ensure adherence to all Health & Safety, Quality & Environmental policies that affect the relevant work areas.

Liaise with Classification societies, flag states, product owner, Fleet Manager and procurement throughout the projects.

Ensure compliance and lead safety analysis including FMEA, HAZID and HAZOP.

Represent company in a professional manner in all interactions.

Working on other projects and tasks as and when required.

Principle Engineer – Marine, Future Technology requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or a related field of study, or an equivalent by experience.

Minimum of five (5) years relevant engineering/marine experience.

Experience in any of the following is preferred and highly valued:

• Shipbuilding
• Marine Classification
• Hydrogen and / or Fuel cells
• Oil and Gas, CNG, LNG, etc

Strong technical knowledge and engineering skills, with proven ability to deliver against time, cost and quality targets.
